Designed by landscape architect Nadia Schilling, the wooden paths of Foz do Arelho, 10 km away from Caldas da Rainha, are one of the most original walking routes in the world. It was included in the Atlas of World Landscape Architecture.
Seven flattened spaces were identified, used as sights, which despite being a part of an area subjected to erosion processes being duly tagged and marked for its risk, are areas subject to intense and regular occupancy by persons and vehicles, suffering degradation processes and jeopardizing the safety of people.
The concept of this challenging project aimed at regulating the access to these spaces, driving people away from the risk range, with the delineation of an alternative route that would make the connection between viewpoints and that worked out simultaneously as the reinstatement of degraded spaces, eliminating invasive species and replanting native species.
Beautifully embraced by the Atlantic ocean, on clear days we can see the Berlenga archipelago in the distance, as well as Peniche and the beach of São Martinho do Porto, a bay-shaped beach, ideal for families.
