Óbidos Lagoon
Óbidos Lagoon is a coastal lagoon that covers an area of 2600 ha, which is 5 km long and 1 km wide, located between Cape Carvoeiro and São Martinho do Porto. As any other coastal lagoon, Óbidos Lagoon is an environmental system in permanent evolution.
Natural Reserve of Paul do Boquilobo
Situated on the left bank of Tagus River, the Natural Reserve of Paul do Boquilobo follows a section of Almonda river born in the Mountain of Serra de Aire e Candeeiros that flows to the right bank of Tagus. The Portuguese Central St. Jame’s Way connecting Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela crosses the very heart of Natural Reserve of Paul do Boquilobo.
Natural Reserve of Paul de Tornada
The Natural Reserve of Paul da Tornada is a freshwater wetland, located 5 km away from Caldas da Rainha. It is classified as a Wetland of International Importance of Ramsar Convention since 2009 and it is the first local natural reserve to be managed by environmental non-governmental organisations.
Paul do Taipal
The Special Protected Zone of Paul do Taipal, located on the plateau of Lower Mondego River in the council of Montemor-o-Velho, between Figueira da Foz and Coimbra, is a 233-ha wetland, divided in two different areas: a swampy area and an involving agricultural area.
Aveiro Lagoon
The Aveiro Lagoon “Ria de Aveiro” is one of the most important wetlands in Portugal. From the Atlantic coast, through the dunes, salt-pans and reed bed areas up to the first woods you will discover different habitats with a rich and varied birdlife. The Lagoon has the status of Important Bird Area (IBA) and Special Protection Area (SPA).
Moliceiros
The moliceiros are a great part of the colourfulness of Aveiro. Used in the past to collect sea weed – “moliço” – they are nowadays a tourism icon of the city. When fully loaded, this boat could take up to 5 tons.
