The hot air balloon festival "Voar na Beira Baixa" (Flying in Beira Baixa) will be held from August 30th to 4th September at the heart of a unique natural landscape because of its immensity and wilderness. Dozens of hot air balloons will fly upon the roads, the paths and the breath-taking sceneries of Castelo Branco, Idanha-a-Nova, Oleiros, Penamacor, Proença-a-Nova and Vila Velha de Ródão.

The cities of Covilhã and Guarda are now finally reconnected by railway. The Beira Baixa railway line is one of the most ancient - and also most stunning - railway connections in Portugal. Officially launched by King D. Carlos on September 6th 1891, this historical railway line connects the cities of Entroncamento and Guarda, along Abrantes, Vila Velha de Ródão, Castelo Branco, Fundão and Covilhã. The landscapes are absolutely breath-taking. Always take the scenic route.
