Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal owns 3 estates located in the Demarcated Region of Óbidos (A.O.C.): Quinta do Sanguinhal, Quinta das Cerejeiras and Quinta de S. Francisco. The names of these estates stand for the most prestigious AOC wines produced in the region, in the hands of the same family for 4 generations.
The grapes from Quinta do Sanguinhal are used to produce the Quinta do Sanguinhal DOC Óbidos wines, as well as the white wines IG Lisboa Sôttal branco Leve and the varietal wines Sanguinhal.
The vineyards of this estate are planted on gentle slopes of clay and sandy soils with white grape varieties (Moscatel Graúdo, Sauvignon Blanc, Vital and Verdelho) and red grape varieties (Castelão, Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Aragonez, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon).
At Quinta do Sanguinhal, Pereira da Fonseca family receives thousands of visitors every year who want to get to know its unique heritage and taste its wines.
It is also here that one of the oldest distilleries in the Lisbon region is located, consisting of copper vessels for the distillation of pomace and two continuous columns for the distillation of wines. One of the oldest wine presses in the Iberian Peninsula, with spindle and stick presses (the oldest dating from 1871).
The estate also includes ageing warehouses for eau-de-vie and liqueur wines, as well as areas for ageing wines in casks and bottles.
